Whether you’re new to poker or have been playing games such as Omaha and Texas Hold ‘em, the following advice will help you immensely in Five-O Poker. Just like other forms of poker, Five-O Poker requires skill and sometimes a bit of luck. But the way to have the most success is to learn the basic strategies of playing the game. That’s what I’m here to help you with.
The first skill you need is some patience. The game, while incredibly fun, can be frustrating at times. You’ll have games where it seems like your opponent is drawing every card you needed and you’re unable to make a good hand. For those of you familiar with Stud poker, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Wait it out. The cards will eventually turn around.
5 Tips to Help You Win and Have Fun Playing
Remember You Don’t Have to Win ALL 5 Hands: In order to win a game, you need to win at least 3 of the 5 hands. If you have a small percentage chance of winning one of the hands, don’t worry about it. Use your “junk” cards for that hand. It’s okay to have 1 or 2 “throw-away” hands.
Pay Attention to Your Opponent’s Cards: You can’t just play your own hands. Remember, your only way of winning is if you beat 3 or more of his/her hands. Let’s say your opponent is showing 3 of a kind and you don’t even have a pair in one of your hands. Put your remaining junk cards in that column because chances are you are going to lose that hand anyway.
Don’t Call a Bet if You Can’t Beat What You See (for Pro version): In the pro version, there is a round of betting after all cards have been dealt. After looking at your cards, if you’re unable to beat what you see your opponent holding, save your chips and don’t make the call.
Easy on the Bluffing (for Pro version): After all cards have been dealt, there is a round of betting. You have the option to either “check” (no bet) or just call your opponents bet. Bluffing is difficult in this game so make sure when you do you are certain there is no way your opponent will call if you don’t have a few strong hands.
Plan Ahead: Let’s say you’re dealt 5-6-K-Q-A to start. The next card you’re dealt is a 7. You can’t make any pairs with that, so instead put the 7 with the 6 so you can start setting up a potential straight. If the next card is a 5, put it with the other 5 so you have a pair and can now work towards 2-pair or better. Think ahead when placing your first few cards.
Five-O Poker isn’t all about winning. It’s a fun game to play with your friends or random opponents. So don’t get discouraged if you don’t win every game. Play the above basic Five-O Poker strategies and you’ll do just fine. Good luck and have fun!
